Upper GI Endoscopy

Upper GI Endoscopy , also known as EGD or esophagogastroduodenoscopy, is a procedure that uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) to examine the upper digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. It can help diagnose and treat conditions like peptic ulcer , GERD , oesophageal varies and polyps . It can also help in detecting any cancerous growth in the upper GI tract and allows biopsies to be taken .

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the large intestine, including the colon and rectum, for any abnormalities or diseases. It involves inserting a long, flexible tube with a camera (a colonoscope) through the anus and into the rectum and colon. The camera allows doctors to visualize the lining of the colon, identify any mucosal abnormalities and take biopsies . It can also help to detect polyps and potentially remove them . Colonoscopy is useful for screening colon or rectal cancers.

Sigmoidoscopy

Sigmoidoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the lower part of the large intestine, specifically the rectum and sigmoid colon, using a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light. It helps doctors diagnose and monitor various gastrointestinal conditions like hemorrhoids , polyps , diverticular disease , cancers , inflammatory bowel disease and solitary rectal ulcer syndrome .

Removal of foreign body

Foreign body endoscopy refers to the minimally invasive procedure of removing ingested or inserted objects from the digestive tract using an endoscope. It is a .common technique, particularly for children and individuals with certain risk factors, where objects become lodged in the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum. The procedure aims to retrieve the foreign body without resorting to surgery, minimizing potential complications and recovery time.

ERCP

ERCP or Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, is a procedure that combines endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat problems in the bile and pancreatic ducts. It involves inserting a thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) through the mouth, down the esophagus, stomach, and into the small intestine (duodenum). A special dye is injected into the bile ducts, and X-rays are used to visualize the ducts and identify any blockages or abnormalities. It can be both diagnostic and therapeutic . ERCP is useful in managing common bile duct stones , common bile duct structures and is an integral part of managing biliary tract cancers . Stenting can be done to reduce jaundice and improve quality of life of many patients .

Side view endoscopy

Side view endoscopy ,involving a duodenoscope, is a specialized endoscopic procedure used for ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) and other examinations of the biliary and pancreatic ducts. Unlike forward-viewing endoscopes, side-viewing endoscopes allow for en-face visualization of the major duodenal papilla, the opening of the bile and pancreatic ducts. This is crucial for cannulation (inserting a catheter into the ducts) during ERCP, which is used to diagnose and treat conditions like gallstones, strictures, and tumors in these duct .

APC

Argon plasma coagulation (APC) endoscopy is a medical procedure that uses a jet of ionized argon gas and an electrical current to control bleeding .It is performed during colonoscopies or upper endoscopy. It is an OPD procedure and can quickly help to alleviate patientโ€™s symptoms .

Endoscopic dilation

Endoscopic dilation is a procedure used to widen a narrowed section of the digestive tract, most commonly the esophagus. It involves using an endoscope, a thin, flexible tube with a camera, to visualize the area and then employing a balloon or dilator to stretch the narrowed passage. This helps individuals with swallowing difficulties or those experiencing food getting stuck in their throat . The procedure can be performed using a balloon or a series of dilators (bougies) .

High resolution manometry

High-resolution manometry (HRM) is a diagnostic test that assesses the muscle contractions of the esophagus, helping to identify abnormalities in esophageal motility. It involves inserting a catheter with pressure sensors into the esophagus, which then measures and records the pressure changes as a patient swallows . It is used to diagnose motility disorders .

Anorectal Manometry

Anorectal manometry is a diagnostic test that assesses the function of the rectum and anal sphincter muscles, helping to diagnose conditions like chronic constipation and fecal incontinence. It involves measuring the pressure and coordination of these muscles using a catheter inserted into the rectum.

Biofeedback therapy

Biofeedback therapy is a technique that helps individuals learn to control certain bodily functions, like heart rate or muscle tension, typically considered involuntary. This is achieved by using sensors that provide real-time feedback on these functions, allowing patients to consciously adjust them through various techniques. It's often used to manage chronic conditions, improve physical performance, and reduce stress and anxiety .

24 hr pH monitoring

24 hour pH monitoring, with or without impedance testing, is a diagnostic procedure that measures the amount and frequency of acid reflux into the esophagus over a 24-hour period. It helps doctors understand the severity of conditions like GERD and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments.

Capsule endoscopy

Capsule endoscopy is a non-invasive procedure that uses a tiny, disposable camera shaped like a pill to examine the small intestine. The patient swallows the capsule, which then transmits images wirelessly as it passes through the digestive tract. These images are recorded and later reviewed by a doctor to identify any abnormalities . It can help diagnose conditions like celiac disease, Crohn's disease, and identify the source of intestinal bleeding.
